OUR FOUNDER:
Hi, I'm Robin, a Wife, Mother, Cosmetic Formulator and Basal Cell Carcinoma Skin Cancer Patient.
HER STORY:
I was born and raised in Sunny Southern California and spent many summers and Holidays at my grandparents’ house in Palm Springs. In Southern California there is never a shortage of Sun, just a shortage of shade. I grew up cheerleading and taking numerous dance classes in a studio where we would compete in year-round competitions. I loved every minute of dance, which kept me busy and out of trouble. I continued dancing my first year of college, during which time I auditioned for the National Football League, and became an NFL Cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers. I was a Charger Girl for 7 absolutely amazing years, and loved every minute of it, although, my long practice days in the sun came at a price. I did not know at the time, but long days of practicing out in the blazing heat of summer on astro-turf, which can cause UV reflection, I began to notice mole-looking bumps on my head and chest. Unfortunately, I did what any girl in her early 20’s would do. Sadly, I ignored them.
Fast forward a few years, and these moles on my body were much larger than they were when younger and they now bled often. I knew something was very wrong and I needed to see a Dermatologist about them. Sure enough, one by one my moles were tested and were each diagnosed as skin cancer in the form of Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer today, and based on the Skin Cancer Foundation website, there are about 4 million cases diagnosed each year. “Basal Cell Carcinoma is serious and should be addressed as soon as possible,” says the Skin Cancer Foundation. Although this form of skin cancer has a very high curable rate, the longer these abnormal growths are left untreated, they can result in awful scars, deformation of areas that need removal, and in rare cases BCC can be life-threatening.
HOW SUNLUX CAME TO BE:
By the end of all of my treatments, I had 4 abnormal spots removed from my body, all diagnosed as Basal Cell Carcinoma. In addition, my Dermatologist and I were routinely observing 4 new spots for any abnormal growth. I even had to undergo a treatment called “Photodynamic Blue Light Therapy (PDT) ” using the photo sensitizer Levulan. It was after that treatment that I began to wonder what I could do not only for myself, but for others in my situation, struggling with severe sun-damaged skin. What regimen after treatment, involving skincare products, can be used to begin repairing the sun damage they’ve experienced? That is when the idea of SunLux Skincare came to be.
I knew I had to educate myself on the skin, skincare products and skincare formulating for this idea of mine to ever come to life. I decided to enroll in a school called *Formula Botanica that taught me how to become a skincare formulator. I began my studies and in-depth research to learn all I could about the skin, skincare ingredients, and the formulating process. I developed an overwhelming love for this new industry I was entering into. I since have completed my Diploma in Organic Skincare Formulation, Diploma in Beauty Business Management and have earned a few Distinction Skills Awards from Formula Botanica. I am currently working on my Diploma in Advanced Skincare Formulations.

OUR VISION:
SunLux was born out of my own journey and experience having had skin cancer, and truly not understanding the power and damage to the skin that UV rays can cause. Through my studies and in-depth research, I realized the power of “Antioxidants” topically on the skin. I began formulating and testing various products, with the addition of antioxidants, on myself. I noticed such a positive response by adding these powerful antioxidants to my skincare routine, that I couldn’t help but want to share it with others.
OUR 3 PROMISES:
- Our promise at SunLux is to teach and educate as many people as we can about the importance of Sunscreen and Prevention. We will never claim to have a cure, but strongly believe in the power of antioxidants to repair sun-damaged skin.
- Our promise at SunLux is to be responsible formulators for our customers and to be responsible with our ingredient choices. Our products are specifically made for sensitive and sun-damaged skin (but safe for all).
- Our promise at SunLux is to support environmental causes. We have partnered with the National Forest Foundation, and are committed to giving a percentage of our annual profits each year to help "America's Reforestation."
